The luxurious 'Palace on Wheels' is a joint venture of the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation, Indian Railways, the State Government of Rajasthan and the Government of India.

Welcome aboard the Palace on Wheels on its splendid and enchanting royal rail journey through the bygone era of the erstwhile Maharajas. Though times have changed and the winds have shifted, the Palace On Wheels cruises along in royal style, the kind only the Maharajas of yesteryears could have perpetuated and enjoyed.




The elegant interiors of this train, with its delectable cuisine and personalized service, exudes an exclusive old world charm. Each saloon has its own personal attendants or 'Khidmatgars' who ensure that your journey is comfortable and enjoyable.

The two restaurant cars, the Maharaja and Maharani serve a range of Indian, Continental, and Chinese cuisine. The diverse menu aboard the Royal Palace changes seasonally.

The journey starts with colorfully attired men and women garland the guests and accord a ceremonial welcome at the Delhi Cantonment Railway Station from where the journey starts. For the next seven days, the guests live in regal splendor as the train winds its way to the Pink City of Jaipur, historical Chittaurgarh and the Lake City of Udaipur, fascinating Sawai Madhopur, the magical desert cities of Jaisalmer and Jodhpur, Bharatpur and Agra, site of the Taj Mahal, one of the world's seven natural wonders.

The royal train was inspired from the erstwhile kings and rulers of the yore who used to travel in the personal railway coaches for bridal sojourn, hunting jaunt and occasion of state visits. Today, the Palace on Wheels transports its passengers in the same world of majestic experience with traditional treatment yet modern amenities. Relive the romance of the princely sojourn in the royal land of Rajasthan witnessing picturesque monuments, palaces, havelis, forts, National Parks and wonder of the world, the Taj Mahal.

Travel Information:

The exquisite and exclusive Palace On Wheels has luxurious cabins, wall to wall carpeting, a well stocked bar, two dining cars and very personalized service... in fact, almost everything that could promise heaven on earth for seven days!

The interiors of the current 14 saloons are authentic replicas of the historic coaches. Each saloon is equipped with twin-bedded cabins, each with channel music, intercom, with attached baths and running hot and cold water and a shower.

Train Journey



The 'Palace on Wheel' starts from Delhi cantonment looking forward to a week-long trip all the way through Rajasthan and Agra. The Palace on Wheels takes its passengers to the colorful city of Jaipur, exotic land of Chittaurgarh, Lake City of Udaipur, Ranthambore National Park, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, red stone city of Fatehpur Sikri and Taj Mahal at Agra.



The Palace on Wheels also boasts a beautiful gift shop called 'The Bazaar' so that you can purchase exotic handicrafts and gift items. A separate beautiful lounge car is attached giving peaceful ambience to passengers.

This luxurious train starts its royal journey on every Wednesday from Delhi Cantonment Railway Station during the cooler months of September to April. However, the train doesn't operate from May to August.

Half fare for children of 5 years and above but less than 12 years. Children below 5 years are free.
There will be a 10% surcharge for the trips falling during Christmas (25th December) and New Year (1st January)
Tariff is inclusive of cost of travel and accommodation, catering (morning tea, breakfast, lunch, evening tea and dinner), conducted sightseeing tours in deluxe coaches, entrance fee for monuments and palaces and cultural entertainment. Tariff does not include liquor, laundry, video cameras, and other items of personal nature.
